This repository includes multiple installable packages. Theopentelemetry-api package includes abstract classes and no-opimplementations that comprise the OpenTelemetry API following theOpenTelemetry specification. The opentelemetry-sdk package is thereference implementation of the API.

Libraries that produce telemetry data should only depend onopentelemetry-api, and defer the choice of the SDK to the applicationdeveloper. Applications may depend on opentelemetry-sdk or anotherpackage that implements the API.
